Not very many posts as of late, my day job has been getting in the way, as i've been working as many hours as possible to fund my 10 week adventure in Mexico. I have however had a few minutes to do a bit of illustrating, currently turning the previous uploaded image into a series, because penguins are awesome :)

Playing with the fact that Penguins are birds that can't fly and rudolph the reindeer (among others) can fly, so this guy is thinking if he was more like rudolph maybe he could fly north for the winter (As all Penguins are found on the southern hemisphere in nature).
If anyone is interested in the design for a christmas card, i'll be printing some of these to sell, let me know if you're interested by dropping an email to firstname.lastname@example.org .

This a redoing of an old idea, something i created a year ago. This was a character design inspired by the emblem on Mexican flag and the work of another illustrator, Alberto Cerriteño. The new design takes inspiration from my previous works, with the textures giving it more life, and there being better shadows, highlights and of course, the most important factor in any illustration, better drawing. The composition is the same as it is still a reference to the Mexican flag.

This piece was inspired by a joke with my Mexican girlfriend... I asked if Mexican Unicorns were Donkeys instead of horses, apparently they are now! The turtle was because turtles are cool, and i like turtles. and the owl is there to be the intelligent extra to offer these crazy characters some advice, because Owl's are ALWAYS right!

This is another idea that got a little bit of production on it, i may start again, but this is the sort of idea i had of just a simple comic showing a man and his cat with emphasis on the cat, the drawing needs a little development still and so does the colour palette, i just wanted something more than a sketch hanging around, there will be roughly 30 pages in the finished thing, when i get time to do it, but at the moment i'm just full to the brim with ideas that i have no time to develop thanks to real life actual work, improving my portfolio work and the course i'm on, hopefully there will be a little time to develop stuff this weekend :)
But here you go:

Another illustration, and story idea i guess, about a man and his dog going whale watching, but can't find any of the ever elusive creatures, because despite their gigantic size, they are incredible at hiding.I've given it a working title of where's whale-y because i couldn't think of anything as brilliant as 'Werefrog'... You could call it 'Where's Whale-do' if you're in the USA.
But anyway, still just a sketch, i may change aspects and develop it further, and of course add colours, textures etc.

After meeting the great Oliver Jeffers, I got a second wind and was inspired to really try to keep drawing and getting some work, also with a little encouragement from some very special people. So here is something i've started drawing and have decided to make a little dummy book from it, which of course means writing and illustrating, which is a new challenge and also very exciting.
It'll be the story of the Werefrog! A bit like a Werewolf... but different. It'll be aimed at young children with short tempers who get a little angry and do stupid things, like many kids do, (i used to lose my temper a lot as a kid) i'm aiming to make it a bit funny and reassuring too with the overall message that we should support our friends when they have problems and not alienate them. Although i am trying to make that subtle as i don't want the book to be preachy, i'd rather it was mainly about FUN!
